Trans Andean Tunnel Proposed

As reported by CNN, both Argentina and Chile have agreed to construct a 14 mile train tunnel through the big Andes. The idea would be to connect Mendoza, Argentina and Los Andes, Chile by train.

Nice to see the two countries getting along and wanting to work together.

There is an old tunnel system and tracks in the region, but it has been destroyed by various avalanches and has been abandoned for some time.

This part of the Andes is quite impressive. Aconcagua, the largest peak outside the Himalayas is right there, along with several other peaks over 20,000 feet.

The mighty south face of Aconcagua, elevation 22,841 feet.

It is great for Argentina and Chile to work together.

Did you take that Aconcagua picture?

Yes I did, in early May, late fall. Chau, Jamie
