Volcanic Eruption

The Volcano Chaiten, 3,280 feet above sea level, located in southern Chile has awoken. This is the first documented eruption of the previously dormant volcano on record. The experts are unsure of how long it will last. The ash and lava has spewed as high as 12 miles in the air. The towns residents have been evacuated, flights have been cancelled and cattle are in danger. The Chilean president has visited the area.

The ash has drifted over into Argentina in towns such as Esquel, Chubut province, about 3 hours south of Bariloche.

As everyone knows, the Chilenos and the Argentines have a long going battle. I think the Chilenos have one upped the Argies on this one. The volcano blows on their side of the border, but a lot of the ash ends up in Argentina.

Here is a picture of downtown Esquel, both pictures courtesy of monstersandcritics.com.
