Musical Ambassadors

The US Embassy sponsored a concert in Buenos Aires with our favorite band in the whole world, Ozomatli. The purpose was to strengthen relations between Argentina and the US. More information can be found here at the US Embassy website. There is great irony in this as Ozomatli has been a strong voice of change within the United States for over 10 years. So, the fact that the State department sponsored them to come to Argentina is quite interesting.

Since we have been meaning to take a trip to Buenos Aires for some time, we jumped on the opportunity to see them in concert. They played a great show, and we had an awesome time.

If the music wasn’t enough, by some strange stroke of luck, the guys were staying in the same hotel as us. On the same floor to be exact. We were able to talk to some of them, and since we have been fans since the late 90’s, it was really cool to be able to talk with them in person. They are  great people, and are doing amazing things throughout the world, much more then just playing music. If you like to dance, and ever get a chance to see them live, you won’t be disappointed.

Ozomatli is one of my favorite bands too–so much so, that my friend and I traveled from Florida to see them in B.A. and make a holiday of it!
How incredible that you met them at the hotel you stayed at! Did you ask them if they felt it was ironic that their tour was sponsored by our Dept. of State? I’d love to know.
On one hand, they represent something about the U.S. that I am thrilled for other countries to see. On the other, it seems hypocritical. I’m not sure what to think and would have asked them about it if I’d had the good fortune to meet them.
    Very interesting blog, btw!

    Maria,

Glad you made a trip of it! Ba is a great city, don’t you think? Yes, we asked Will-Dog about the state department and he felt it was quite ironic as well.

It was an amazing coincidence to be walking into the hotel when they were checking in, especially since the hotel was about 25 minutes from the Roxy. I guess it was good luck!

    Adios, Jamie
