Patagonian Magic

The day started out with turbulent winds, thick clouds and torrential rain showers.  The weather reminded me of growing up in Washington State.  The smell of rain cleaning the world around us hung heavily in the air.

The weather worked its magic.  Our view from the house showed sheets of rain pelting the earth and the waters of Lago Nahuel Huapi growing to the size of ocean waves.  I spent the day doing work and gazing out at the weather changing.  The Patagonia that comes to mind of cold and severe weather rang true.

As sunset approached I decided to take the dogs for a walk.  The trails in my neighborhood are in protected national forests with manicured trail and outstanding views.

We arrived at the trail head and there was not a soul around.  The dogs wagged their tails and jumped up and down in excitement.  Their experience had taught them that great smells and fun were soon to be had with this parking area.

We started the hike at a good clip knowing that the sun was quickly sliding behind the mountain.   The dogs gleefully raced down the slick mud path.

Within a few minutes the forest became thick with Valdevidian Bamboo.  The thickness of the bamboo creating an archway to protect us from the rain.  The bamboo was so lush that it felt as if we were walking in a green, long, bushy hallway.

The pathway wandered through the Lenga trees.  The misty clouds floating through the high tree tops made the air sparkle with the rays of light cast by the sun.  The trees called out in a squeaky voice as they swayed with the wind.  Their voices made music with the twittering birds.

As we come to the crest of the hike the 270 degree view of Lago Nahuel Huapi was spread before us.  Mother Nature deserves a standing ovation.  The beauty of this place astounds me.

I feel so lucky to be here and experiencing Patagonia.  This is a place of magic and nature is the magician.

I wish that all people in the midst of war, pain or unhappiness could come to these forests, sit within them and feel the peace.  This feeling is meant for all.

Thank you Mother Nature for creating such an amazing place.
