Ibis

The Ibis (Theristicus caudatus) is a unique bird with a larger stature and long, black, narrow beak.  It waddles around green, damp, grassy areas near water sources, looking for scrumptious insects.  A rose colored crown contrasts the top of a narrow head, adorned with beady red eyes.  It’s body begins with a short narrow neck, faiding crimson red into brown.  A yellow breast and  black belly meets with a chest of grey and white , finishing off with a darker grey stumpy tail of feathers.  Stick thin, red legs support the Ibis around marshy land and water ways.

The Ibis is the trumputeer of the skyway.  They are a migracional bird, returning to Bariloche in the Spring.  Their arrival can be heard with a metallic, trumpeting sound of greetings and conversations being called out in the Patagonia sky.  They often fly in pairs, or more, communicating throughout their flight.
