There are unconfirmed reports of a bad accident on Cerro Tronador, elevation 11,453, south west of Bariloche.

There may be more than one victim involved.

Tronador is far and away the most alpine type peak in the area.

We will post more details as they become available.

InfoBAE link can now be found here.

Better article with more details can be found here. Sounds like a fatality.

BA2000 is reporting that a group of four fell into a crevasse on the glacier. They are reported to be students from the United States and one has died.

Update-Afternoon

Mendoza Online is reporting these were 12 students from Outwards Bounds, the well known camp from the United States.

The loose translation of the article reads;

There were 3 rope teams of 4 people each

One of the teams fell into the crevasse, approximately 20-25 meters/70 feet.

They were at about 3,000 meters, 500 meters from Refugio Viejo, on the south side of the mountain.

Update-Evening

AnBariloche has announced the name of the victim, age 25. Our thoughts and positive vibes are being sent to his family and friends.
