We Will Miss You Saucer Boy
March 26th, 2009 Posted in day to dayWritten by Shanie
Today is a sad day. The world has lost a hero. We have lost a member of the ski tribe that has done more than any other person in the history of the sport. Shane McConkey has tragically lost his life in a ski base jumping accident.
As a soul skier that has dedicated her life to the gravitational pull of boards on a white, slippery surface, Shane has been a major influence in my life for almost two decades. It started when I met him when I moved to Squaw Valley. His skiing ability was off-the-charts. We shared like-names. He helped me learn the art of not getting passed in the lift line. He spoke inspirational words at a fellow friend’s funeral that I will never forget. His comedic abilities kept the laughter flowing.
It is safe to say that Shane lived life to the fullest. Everyday. And that is the inspiration in his passing.
Don’t let a day go by that isn’t filled with passion. Make your dreams a reality. Keep the humor.
Thank you Shane. You and Saucer Boy will never be forgotten.
Update:Shane’s service will be Sunday, April 5 at 4:30pm at Squaw Valley, go to www.ShaneMcConkey.org for more information.
