Spring is in the Air

Spring is definitely in the air in Patagonia.

It seems that last weeks few inches of snow was winters last breath of air.

I have started the in-depth task of remodeling the landscaping of our forty year old property.  Stubborn, well-rooted weeds have been putting up a fight with my shovel.  The shovel is barely winning but ends up coming out on top to reveal healthy, dark brown soil that is warmed from the strong sun.

At one point in the day today I stop shoveling to stretch my tired back and my eyes are drawn to an avalanche that must have just happened.

The mountains across the lake from our house are still covered in white; the areas above tree line are blankets of perfect corn.

I look in our monocular and see that a large cornice has broken off, stimulating a large avalanche, that has stepped down to the dirt in places, causing a deep, foreboding debris toe in its wake.

The walls are crumbling down in Patagonia.  Mother nature is working her spring magic.
