Phrase of the Week

October 17th, 2007 Posted in culture, phrase of the week

We are adding a new feature to Living in Patagonia.

We will highlight an Argentinian phrase, saying or word each week.  We were thinking this would not only help people understand the Argentine Spanish (Castillano) but help us too.

So, here it goes…we hope you enjoy and learn some good slang in the process.

la noche está en pañales“: literally means “the night is in diapers” but in colloquial slang means “the night is young”.

This is an important and common comment being that the nightlife is muy importante in Argentina.  The night stays young til early in the morning.  A fact of the Argentinian culture that continually amazes me.
