Iguazú Falls

My Mom is visiting us in Argentina. We decided to make a trip up to the very northeast corner of the country, to Iguazú Falls. Though this has nothing to do with Patagonia, it is such an amazing spot within Argentina, I figured it was worthy of a post. Iguazú, in the native language of Guarani, translates into big water. I would say that is an understatement. There are 275 waterfalls that make up the area, the tallest of them being 269 feet high.

The falls area strecthes across about 1.7 miles of the Iguazú river. The area is on the border of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay at a latitude of about 25 degrees. The climate is subtropical and there are many jungle like areas and some amazing wildlife as well. Rumor has it that Eleanor Roosevelt visited and when she first saw the falls, she said “Poor Niagra”. The sheer power of the water is something else.

Here are a couple of pictures and a little video of the area.

Hard to believe this time tomorrow I will be back in Patagonia. In case you haven’t heard, Argentina is one diverse country.

You said it – having been to Argentina 2 times now I am wondering about when the 3rd trip will be.

There is so much to see.
