Farm Strike Update

President/Queen Cristina has now said that if the farmers end their strike, she will meet with them to discuss the current situation. This is certainly a step towards resolving the problem. Yesterday, she was quoted as saying, “To hold a dialogue with a pistol pointed at the head is very difficult, above all in a democracy. This lockout is not against the government, but against the people.” According to Reuters, the Argentine government expects this strike to end soon.

So far during the 17 day strike, there has been a little unrest and a lot of pot banging. Supermarkets throughout Buenos Aires are experiencing shortages of beef and milk. There have been reports of some roads being blocked. If nothing else, it makes for some good lively debate.
