I Swear I Saw the Cousin of the Loch Ness Monster, Nahuelito

As we have mentioned before, the Loch Ness Monster has a cousin in the Patagonian Lakes District, Nahuelito.

Well, some might call me crazy, but I swear I saw Nahuelito the other evening while hiking along Lago Nahuel Huapi. First, I must say that I was above the beach, on a mirador, so I wasn’t extremely close to the water…but this thing was huge and it came up to the surface, raised its head, and then when back down to the depths of the grey-blue water. Twice.

Now if it had only happened once, I would of thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. But seeing it a second time made my confused brain take notice.

I could see that the magnanimous head was followed by an equally large and long body. The rippling of the water gave the secret away.

Now maybe I was seeing things, but for me it was quite a special moment…maybe all of the sightings by the Mapuche, European settlers and fisherman aren’t so far-fetched after all.
