Gas Prices Slashed

In case I wasn’t already sure, some things in Argentina defy logic. Take gas prices for example. Overnight, prices were reduced 32 centavos per liter for diesel. I had read recently in the Buenos Aires Herald that the government had implemented a plan to stop exporting oil until prices are brought back down to October levels and there is plenty for all. Nice to see they are taking care of the local folk.
I will convert the prices to US dollars by the gallon for comparison.
Diesel=US$2.25/gallon
Unleaded=US$2.61/gallon
Super Unleaded=US$3.31/gallon
These are full service (no option) prices in Bariloche and are likely cheaper in other parts of the country.
This translates to a savings of US$6.06 per tankful. Perhaps this is Argentina’s version of a stimulus package?

diesel is much higher here, closer to super price. looking closer the range of unleaded now goes from about $3 for regular to $3.50 premium.

When I visited BA i noticed that the taxi’s were run on propane or natural gas.Is that common in other areas of Argentina? And do you have any idea of how much the cost of the natural gas is? Hey thanks for your blog.

Yes, propane/natural gas is prevalent throughout the country. Many people have converted their cars. It runs a little slower, but I have heard the costs are 1/5 of diesel. Also, you can’t go too many kilometers between fill ups. Many people have it set up where they can switch back and forth.

Thanks for the quick answer.I’m 62 and considering relocating (retiring) in Argentina my wife still has a few years to work. I’ve made 4 trips down there and your site is a big help to me. I see you guys are from Califonia,I was 23 years in San Diego (Ocean Beach) now living on an island in Puget Sound nw of Seattle. Anything you mentioned made a lot of good sense. But, think about this, imagine if you included somewhat content? I mean, I dont want to explain the way to run your website, but imagine you added some thing to maybe get peoples attention? As being a video or maybe a photo or two to obtain people excited about what youve got to mention. In my opinion, it would help make your blog site become more active somewhat.
