Permiso: it technically means “excuse me”. Other than using it to pass someone on the street or get someone’s attention, the other common — and, at times, more important — use is when entering a person’s home, room or space.

Although it doesn’t seem like much and wouldn’t be thought of in other countries as a common courtesy, it is considered extremely rude to not say permiso as you pass into another person’s dwelling here in Argentina.
