When I was recently back in the States, I came across Culture Shock! Argentina by Fiona Adams.

I spent the last few days reading its 252 pages.

Culture Shock! is a series of educational/guide books dedicated to helping foreigners understand other cultures. These books target defectors, long term visitors and those wishing to be more knowledgeable when visiting a foreign country.

I wish I had seen this book when we first started considering our move in 2004. It is packed full of useful information that clarifies the way things operate here.

With chapters such as Fitting into Society, Enjoying the Culture, Doing Business, etc., there is a wealth of information that is provided. Based on my Argentine experiences, I would agree with over 90% of what is said in this book.

Furthermore, some of the things I read validated what I had already thought, eliminating the “Is it just me?”  thoughts in my head.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone considering making Argentina their new home, purchasing any kind of Argentine investment or planning to travel throughout the country for any period of time.

I included a link to order it directly from Amazon.com, should you choose. Just look for the book cover to the right and click on it.

    Jamie,
Do you think “Culture Shock” would be helpful in considering Uruguay also? Thank you.

    Hola Janelle,

I think Uruguay is it’s on different being. I am not sure how much help information about Argentina will be pertinent to Uruguay.

    Adios, Jamie
